I have made one or two blogs with blogger before. My memory isn't very good, but I thought Blogger automatically created an RSS feed for each blog. Whatever the truth is, I remember in the past that people 'burned' their feeds with feedburner (now owned by Google). By setting up feedburner, I also found a Google Profile setting I otherwise didn't know existed...

Blogger has a tag cloud (label cloud) widget that simply lets you have a listing of all the labels you've used in your blog. As I mentioned in a prior post, the downside of this is that every page has the tag cloud, and thus those tags become searchable text for each and every page. Autodesk Inventor: Add/Subtract One Model from Another - Boolean Modifier/Operation

I am venturing into the world of 3D design, and 3D printing, by learning Autodesk Inventor. It is mechanical and methodical compared to other programs like Sketchup and Blender- and I was wondering if Inventor could merge models together, or use one model as a cutter for another model. I guess for applications like Blender, this function is called a boolean modifier (here's a video of that). Autodesk Inventor can do something similar- here are the steps.

Blogger Blog Search Widget is Broken? -Update

It may not in fact be broken, it may just take a long time before the widget gets to 'update' it's search results of this site. It appears today that I can search old posts, but not a post that I just made. I will try to remember to re-search the recent post before this one, and try figure what the update window is like.

Blogger Blog Search Widget is Broken?

A big reason I wanted to use Blogger was because I can dump information here, and search it back later - like a poor man's wiki... Though I created this blog not long ago, I finally got around to actually testing the function that is most important to me - only to find that it is broken!

I'm a film/television/visual arts student. One of the most important steps to good production as a cameraman/photographer is to make sure you have proper white balance to record accurate colors. You can stylize the color tones in editing. This is also important for photography (but if you shoot in a RAW format, you may not need to worry about this- still a good practice).

Tape Lubricants

Got a tape camera? Who am I kidding, no one does. But there used to be a debate on what brand of tapes to use, and what would happen if you used various brands in a tape deck...


Well, it's not too cool to mix them. You can get what's called a tape clog, and well, it is what it sounds like... gunk all caught up in your junk...

How to avoid this? Pick a brand and stick with it. Is one brand better over the other? Not really, so long as you don't switch. Personally, I always used Sony tapes. The Sony Beta medium was the standard for years. From what I was told, Sony used a more wet lubricant, while Panasonic tapes were a dry formula.

I don't use a tape camera anymore, but I still have a few miniDV blanks floating around. I do have two storage boxes full of used tapes- some recorded with SD and some in HD. I sold my only tape camera awhile back... I had toyed with the idea of getting a cheap camera to capture the footage again just to have it... but at 12GB an hour... I guess the other option would be to get something like an HD-PVR or a Blackmagic Intensity and capture footage in a compressed, modern, format.

Autodesk Inventor: How To Import STL Files

My goal is to learn how to design in 3D with software like Blender, but I am getting into the swing of 3D printing by learning the basics of Autodesk Inventor. A lot of people share their designs on Thingiverse, where you can download the designs and examine them. Autodesk Inventor can import .STL files, but you it doesn't appear you can do anything with them, let alone modify them... but there is a plugin.

Chyron DB Link Macro

A Chyron is a graphics/character generator system and software, generally for live television programming. I used to use one at school and work. The software has the ability to read an Excel spreadsheet to populate images and text in the graphics files for a show. You can set this up manually, but sometimes there are a ton of graphics pages needed, all based on a common template. You can automate the population process.

Universal Construction Toy Parts

A year ago now, news circulated the web of a guy who made a universal toy parts set that allowed parts from different brands to be mixed. I didn't pay much attention to 3D printing before seeing this news. I could guess that a lot of the 3D toy part designs may have come about because of this guys work. Enable Windows 7 Hidden Administrator

Sometimes you need it, though I can't exactly remember right now what I needed it for... HowToGeek advised that unless you need it for troubleshooting, you really shouldn't touch it. The Easiest way to enable the hidden (or super) administrator is to use command prompt.

Clean Mac Keyboards

The apple Aluminum keyboard really is an awesome thing. It's thin, sleek, clean... well, at least until its dirty. If it's surface dirt, you can use a damp cloth to wipe it down and let it dry. But, dirt can get in between the keys.

Blogger Jump Breaks

I guess I've always seen the "read more" expansion links to full articles all the time, but I didn't give it much attention till I saw Engadget posts read something like 'more after the break'. I don't know if I would term it like that with my blog, but it made me think about putting this concept into practice.

Google's support page reads you in on this, and goes on to remind that even though you may start using the jump break, your posts won't appear different until you visit "Settings" > "Other" - and look at "Site Feed" section, and change the "Allow Blog Feed" setting (kind of an odd way to present the terminology, save the only logical choice for the purpose of this post).

Blogger has a meager selection of templates compared to Wordpress or tumblr. But a quick search may lead you to btemplates.

Google Picasa Image Limitations

Blogger by default stores uploaded pictures on Picasa, Google's photo hosting arm. There are some limitations to keep in mind.

The Big Robot Genre

I love movies, but I haven't been very motivated to see many recently. I'm not a particularly deep person, but I have high standards. I haven't though many recent films are worth experiencing in the theater seat. I just read a CNET article by Tim Hornyak though that compares Pacific Rim to the mid 90s anime series Evangelion.

FD Lens (Rear) Cap

I'm not old, but I feel old when I think about film cameras... I never really got into shooting with film. I got into photography with a Minolta DiMage 7, and I graduated into Canon EOS cameras. But I have in my possession an old Canon AE-1 SLR film camera, and two lenses; the Canon brand 50mm FD lens, and an accompanying 28-135mm Vivitar FD lens.

Why

You know how it's hard to remember a time without the internet? I'm having a tough time remembering a web that wasn't all about social networking.

Nearly every news article, portfolio, business... practically every webpage, has the social networking badges we've all come to know. Even if you aren't familiar a specific badge (visit an Asian webpage), you understand the concept, the what's what. It's like if you go to another country, you can at least appreciate the function of road signage. Actually, you're more likely to decipher what the signs mean, even if they're in another language (*I'll return to this idea later). Social media hubs are not just the cultural norm, they are becoming (if not already) a standard of web-life.
